Goodbye Ford, GM and Chrysler?
Ho, ho, ho, ’tis the season for giving and no one knows this better then our government. Every direction you turn there’s a new “bailout” hitting the front page of the news. The most recent that find it’s way to the top of the newsstands is for the big 3 auto manufacturers. After years of burning through cash, they’re now asking you and I, the US Taxpayers to step up and throw some more logs of cash into the company furnaces. Is it time to let capitalism run it’s course or should we stroke another check to a failing company?
There’s no doubt that if Ford, GM or Daimler Chrysler were to fail and ultimately file for bankruptcy, the repercussions will have a negative impact on the economy. The big question is just how large of an impact Read More

Need a Soda, Financing is Available
If you’re light on cash and really craving a caffeine kick, don’t worry about it, buy it now and pay later. It’s the American way; can’t afford it or don’t have the dough, no worries just charge it. If the average Joe doesn’t already have enough credit card debt piling up, there is a new way to quickly add a couple of bucks on top of that mountain of personal debt. Pop machines are now accepting credit cards offering a great way for someone to pay interest on their personal beverage drinking habits. Have we really gotten to the point of financing pop?
A couple of nights ago my wife and I had an evening out and decided to grab dinner and a movie. After dinner we picked up our movie tickets (at $10 bucks a piece I might add) and then decided to burn a little time with a stroll through the adjoining mall. Before returning to the theatre we decided to hit up the pop Read More
No President Will Spoon Feed You
How many times have you heard the word “change” over the past 6 months? I’m going to go out on a limb here and venture a guess that you’ve heard it about a million times. Time and time again, I’ve heard people talk about how a new President is going to change everything including the failing economy, job market, and overall financial pinch many of us are feeling. While there is no doubt that an economic policy set forth by an administration can offer tools for change, but it’s how we as American’s use the tools that will truly cause the change. Stop looking to the government for change and create your own change.
One of my favorite quotes is from Ghandi, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. No President or government policy is going to drop a golden ticket in your lap. In a recent Read More
Pond Scum To Fuel Cars?
Gone are the days of taking your kids to a local pond and looking for frogs; now it’s time to take them there in the hunt for black gold! Well maybe that’s a little over exaggerated, but the concept is not far off. Recently I came across some information on NPR about the prospects of turning common pond scum into oil. It turns out that the Department of Energy has been working on a sustainable way to create fuel from algae.
Apparently the green scum that grows in local ponds and waste water across the country produces a large amount of oil. Not only is this oil relatively abundant but it’s combustible. The opportunity that this presents could be huge. Algae can basically grow anywhere and Read More

Never Worry About The Mortgage Payment Again!
Recently I came across this video and I was a little concerned. There is no doubt that this person and her family are extremely excited about the upcoming election, which I think is a great thing! Her comments completely caught me off guard however; do people really think that if Obama gets elected that our bills are suddenly going to vanish? This isn’t the first time that I’ve heard people talking about how all of their personal financial problems are going to suddenly be solved if Obama is elected president. I’m glad that the Read More
Who’s To Blame, Big Oil or You?
The money is rolling in the door and income is through the roof. Times couldn’t be better as the cash doesn’t even fit in your wallet and you just set another record in your bank account! Sound like your story? Well it could be if you were a giant oil company. Today Exxon Mobile crushed the record for earnings in a quarter coming in at $14.83 billion! I seem to recall that most of the country was falling further into debt during the last 3 months and paying record prices at the pump. Are big oil companies “fleecing” consumers or are we at fault for letting them charge high prices?
Recently I wrote an article asking if People Are Living Beyond Their Means, or Simply Living , one thing is for certain we’ve all been paying a ton of money at the pump over the past 3 years. During this same period oil Read More

Ding Dong Is Capitalism Really Dead?
Now that the stock market is taking a bath, home values have been dropping like a rock, and bailouts are around every corner, it seems that everyone is hitting the panic button and wondering if capitalism is dead. The ex-federal reserve chairman, Alan Greenspan, recently sparked a wild fire that is rushing people to question the future direction of our economy and free market philosophy. Is it time to throw in the white towel and hang up our capitalistic ideals? Not just yet.
Capitalism has been the power that’s propelled our country into the economic superpower that we find today. The spirit of entrepreneurship has lead to some amazing products, services, and companies. Read More
Is Our Country Made Of Funny Money?
The last 5 to 10 years have brought amazing and some not so amazing changes to our country. On an economic front we have experienced tremendous growth. Corporate growth had been clipping along at a runaway freight train pace, shopping malls were full of people gobbling up the latest and greatest, and up until the past couple of weeks our stock market was soaring at all time highs. Until recently, credit has been the fuel to feed this wild fire and now that the credit markets have become tighter we are seeing signs of a possible broken financial system. Has all of this growth been created on a false promise to repay and is it all based on Funny Money?
The writing has been on the wall for years; every couple of months we are hit with the news that Americans are falling further and further into debt. In a recent article, Should Credit Card Debt Be Illegal, I highlighted that it’s both a combination of individuals living financially beyond their means and also people simply Read More
