Is The US Senate Clueless?

Recently the US Senate decided to vote down a bill that would allow a $14 billion dollar bailout package for the Big 3 automakers.  The vote count was 52-35.  Almost immediately after the news of the bill failure, the White House issued a statement giving a sense of strong probability they will override the decision.  Apparently the US Senate is clueless, along with the people who elected them.

I’m not a political science expert, but the I do know as a democratic country we elect politicians to represent or views and opinion in Washington D.C.  That’s a very fundamental principle our country has been built on.  With the US Senate electing to protect American  taxpayer money and decline another big business bailout, the buck should stop there.  I think it would be in the best interest of the country if the bill was rewritten and renegotiated.  If the President elects to supersede the decision Congress has made, what good is having an elected body such as the Senate to represent us as US citizens?

Do you think that the White House should disregard the Senate vote and allocate taxpayer money to GM, Ford, and Chrysler?  We would love to hear your feed back in the comments below.

I don’t think that giving bailout money to the big 3 is a good idea. The auto industry hasn’t been able to keep up with foreign producers and the high wages that union employees are getting in the U.S. make it impossible for the big 3 to compete. Something’s got to give and the government shouldn’t try to put money into keeping these inefficient operations running.

It’s amazing that even though the Bush administration is following extremely liberal policies, the people still disapprove. Why can’t they act as true Republicans and let the big three automakers fail? Maybe “true republican” is a misnomer…

I don’t understand why the UAW won’t negotiate with the Senate. Would you rather keep the company you work for up and running even if it meant taking a pay cut?
